Wai-Lan Fo Executive Director – Mazars Taxation Services S/B
Wai Lan graduated from the University of Malaya with a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) degree and from the University of London with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree. She is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia.
She started her career as a tax practitioner in 1987 with a medium-sized taxation firm. From 1988 to 1999, she was with what was then a big-6 accounting firm and then another medium sized firm, before joining Moores Rowland as tax manager in December 1999. She left at the end of 2001 and rejoined in early 2004 as senior tax manager. She assumed her present position of Executive Director in July 2006.
During the course of her career as a tax practitioner, Wai Lan has been exposed to tax compliance work of corporations in various sectors including manufacturing, hotel, food and beverage, leasing, insurance, banking, finance, credit card, construction, property development, electronics, information communication technology, airlines, plantation and agriculture. She has also been involved in tax matters relating to individuals and expatriates, non-resident contractors and withholding tax matters.
Besides tax compliance, Wai Lan also handles tax advisory, tax planning, tax audit appeals, application for tax incentives, application for approved charitable institutions and applications for stamp duty and real property gains tax and import duty exemptions. Wai Lan also assists her clients in the applications for manufacturing licences, applications to Bank Negara Malaysia to comply with the exchange control regulations, and indirect tax matters.
Wai Lan has recently obtained the GST certification issued by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department for GST Practitioners in Malaysia. She conducts training on Goods and Services Tax implementation issues and contributes to the publication of the Annual Budget Commentary and Tax Information as one of the members of the editorial board.
